The Field Società Cooperativa
We’re living through a time of deep and rapid change.
At The Field, we support people, organisations and public institutions in navigating this complexity—felt at personal, organisational, and systemic levels—by reconnecting with purpose, nurturing creative leadership, and testing new ways of thinking and doing to spark meaningful, lasting change in response to complex social and environmental challenges.
We are a cooperative based in Trieste, on Italy’s northeastern border, working locally and internationally. Our mission is to enable a just ecological and social transition through creativity, collaboration, and community empowerment.

What we believe
We believe that creativity has the power to ignite both imagination and agency—the keys to addressing the challenges of the 21st century. In a world overwhelmed by crises, creativity, emotional intelligence, and collective leadership are not luxuries—they are essential.

We also believe that interdisciplinary collaboration and systems thinking will shape the way forward. These ways of working require trust, facilitation, and a safe space for exploration—and that’s what we offer.

What we do
We help people thrive in complexity.

Through creative projects, research, training, facilitation, coaching, and consultancy, we create spaces where new ideas and approaches can emerge. Our work spans multiple sectors—youth, culture, academia, civil society, and public institutions—both locally and internationally.

We support and design initiatives that:

-
Strengthen participative democracy and community-driven governance
-
Enable people to co-create new paradigms of leadership rooted in empathy, meaning, and collective wellbeing
-
Build capacity for systems thinking and place-based innovation
-
Facilitate cultural and ecological regeneration
-
Foster meaningful collaboration across disciplines and sectors
We work across different ‘fields’ of knowledge and practice—often shaping new ones—to help individuals and organisations make sense of complexity, reconnect with their purpose, and take action with confidence and creativity.

How we work
We support people to access their creative agency, align with their values, and “be the change” in their communities. When people connect to purpose, practice emotional awareness, and engage with others meaningfully, they experience greater wellbeing—and become powerful agents of transformation.

Our work combines non-formal education, participatory facilitation, and strategic project design to make complex ideas tangible and inclusive. We create environments where trust and dialogue can flourish—where participative democracy, collaborative leadership, and interdisciplinary exploration can lead to new ways of thinking and doing.
Together, we are working toward emerging new leadership paradigms that are fit for a world in transition—leadership that is shared, creative, relational, and grounded in collective wellbeing.
Our values
Everything we do is grounded in the principles we live by:
-
Inclusion, diversity, and equity
-
Collaboration and co-creation
-
Respect for the environment and all forms of life
-
Peace and non-violence
-
The connection between personal growth and systemic change
-
The importance of uplifting marginalised voices in the just transition
-
A commitment to decolonising development and embracing happy degrowth
-
Walking our talk: embodying the change we want to see
Why it matters
Today’s crises are also a crisis of the collective imagination. People and organisations face complex challenges, but also hold extraordinary potential to reimagine and rebuild.
Through our work, we support changemakers to reclaim agency and co-create a future rooted in justice, care, sustainability, and solidarity.

Because imagining a better world is the first act in making it real.
Meet the Team
Our team brings together diverse backgrounds—from civic innovation and youth engagement, to climate action, arts and culture, organisational psychology, systems change, and public policy. What unites us is a shared belief in the power of community, creativity, and care to transform our world from the ground up.

We started The Field to bring this interdisciplinary, nature-connected lens to complex social and environmental issues.
